Hodsock Priory Wedding Photography & Videography

Hodsock Priory is a country house wedding venue surrounded by extensive gardens and open grounds. The house sits within a large estate, and that sense of space is very much a part of the day.

For couples planning their wedding here, the balance between the house and the surrounding landscape is often what defines the atmosphere. Rather than everything happening in one central place, different parts of the day tend to spread across the house and grounds.

A wedding at Hodsock Priory

The getting-ready rooms at Hodsock Priory offer a calm start to the morning. There is enough space for hair and makeup preparations while still leaving room for family and friends to move comfortably around the room.

Large windows bring in plenty of daylight, which works well for both photography and videography. It allows preparations to happen without introducing additional lighting or interrupting what’s already happening.

Because the rooms aren’t crowded, it’s also easier to photograph details — dresses, shoes and small personal items. Here, no staging is necessary as the decor is beautifully complimentary.

Getting Ready at Hodsock Priory

Hodsock Priory offers both indoor and outdoor ceremony locations within the estate. Many couples are drawn to the garden ceremony setting, where guests can gather outside with plenty of space to mingle.

For the wedding featured here, the plan had been to hold the ceremony outdoors before the weather turned, moving everything inside instead. The indoor ceremony space is more intimate, which simply means approaching the coverage with a little more awareness of the room and how people move within it.

Ceremony Options

The grounds are one of the defining features of Hodsock Priory. Once guests step outside after the ceremony, the day spreads across the lawns and garden spaces surrounding the house, similar to other country house venues we’ve photographed such as Rudding Park.

Because there are several areas where guests can gather, nothing feels compressed. Small groups form across the gardens and paths rather than everyone clustering in one location.

From a visual point of view, that creates variety throughout the day. Some moments happen across the lawns with a wider sense of the estate, while others take place in quieter corners.

The Gardens and Grounds

Working at a venue like Hodsock Priory is largely about responding to the space and freedom that it offers. The layout of the grounds and the way guests move between areas provide the structure for the day.

By moving quietly through those spaces — from morning preparations through to the evening and reception — the aim is simply to document what’s already happening while paying attention to light, composition and the pace of the day.
